Melasma or “pregnancy mask” is a chronic skin condition that gives the skin an appearance of brown or blotchy patches of pigmentation or what may look like sunspots.

Melasma is caused by the abnormal functioning of the color-producing melanocytes which are located in the dermis layer of the skin. An individual’s melasma may be triggered by changes in hormones, UV exposure, heat and possibly other factors.

Because Melasma is a complicated skin condition, it should be only treated by experienced medical professionals with specialized technologies capable of safely addressing the unique challenges presented by melasma.

Treatments

Sylfirm X Melasma Treatment

A new method for treating Melasma involves the use of RF Micro Needling with the Sylfirm X device. The latest understanding of the condition involves aged fibroblasts and abnormal vascularity contributing to the over-functioning of the melanocyte. Melasma treatment with Sylfirm X, with exclusive Pulse Wave technology, uses tiny micro needles to deliver energy to the dermal layer, creating a therapeutic electromagnetic field whereby only the abnormal vessels and tissues are treated.

By treating the vascular supply of the offending melanocytes, this new method is analogous to cutting the gas off to the engine. Normal functioning of the skin is now possible and clear skin the result. Following a successful course of 5-6 RF micro needling sessions every 2-4 weeks, results can be maintained with Sylfirm X treatment every 6 months and continued use of skin care.

RevLite® SI Q-Switched Laser Treatments

Q-Switched lasers are specialized for treating melasma and deliver their energies in incredibly small bursts. This type of laser treatment for melasma has been proven to break up the pigment safely and without complications for clear skin.

RevLite laser treatment for melasma is performed every 1-2 weeks for a minimum of 6 treatments in conjunction with topical lightening creams. Following a successful course of laser therapy, results can be maintained with laser treatment every 3 months and continued use of skin care.

Topical Skin Care

Lightening agents including hydroquinone and non-hydroquinone products can be used to suppress the production of melanin. Our team can recommend a ZO® Skin Health melasma regimen that is right for you.
